YZY X GAP COLLECTION BREAKS SALES RECORD

While it’s been extremely hard for businesses across the world to stay afloat during the pandemic. GAP has had it’s fair share of declining net sales even before the, but the pandemic didn’t help things any. GAP had to close 190 stores since 2019 in North America alone. Part of GAP’s plan was to enter partnership agreements to help improve profits.

In 2020 it was announced that Gap would be teaming up with Ye for a new clothing line called YEEZY GAP. Fast forward a year later on June 8th (Ye’s Birthday) we got a surprise drop in the form of a pre order. There was only one item that launched which was the YZY GAP ROUND JACKET in Bright Cobalt Blue for $200. Which was said to start shipping in Fall 2021. Mickey Drexler (former GAP CEO) said the Round Jacket made $7 Million overnight off of just one item.

Soon after being spotted at the Balenciaga coture fashion show in a Black Round Jacket. It was announced that the second Pre-order would now launch on July 13th in Japan, United Kingdom, and Europe only. With a US release later on July 23rd. Shortly after the second DONDA listening party on August 6th the Red Round Jacket launched as another preorder in US, set to start shipping in Spring 2022. With both colors selling out overnight and likely doing similar numbers as the BLUE ROUND JACKET did.

The last drop for YZY GAP on September 29th 2021 featured 6 colors of the “Perfect Hoodie.” The colors were Black, Blue, Red, Purple, Brown, and Mustard and launched in Adult ($90) and Kids ($70) sizing. The YEEZY GAP Hoodie delivered the most sales by an item in just a single day in GAP.com history with new customers making up 70% of those sales.

It’s no doubt that the YZY GAP collaboration is definitely bringing life back into the brand. Now we just have to wait until they put a whole collection instead of just on thing at a time. This has the potential to be bigger and more lucrative than the last Season drops as there will like be a lot of stock on Garments should they choose to put out a whole collection.
